Podcast — The Shift, Part 1

Shifting into your Highest Wisdom in the Midst of Chaos

swan on lakeThis life coaching Podcast is devoted to adults who would like to shift into a more positive state, in the midst of problems-personally, professionally and globally.

Today’s inspiration revolves around our 6th energy center, (chakra), sometimes called the “third eye”.

Energy centers are like vibrant wheels spinning in certain primary areas of your body, and sometimes they each need tuning up.  I am partial to the 3rd eye area, because it can give us answers we have been searching for… if we are still and just listen.  The 3rd eye chakra or energy center can help us make decisions and have relationships that come from a more positive state, and from a higher place of awareness and interaction.

The healing song you will hear in the midst of the visualization is called “Surrender” from my CD “Voice of the Angels.”

Once we make a small shift in our behavior with our words, actions, feelings and thoughts, we can never go backwards completely.  Each positive change builds on the next.  Forgive yourself when you become less conscious, and keep trying… because every moment is a moment to choose differently. Each moment we shift, helps to heal the world.  It is like the “butterfly effect.” Everything that happens to someone and every change we make has an impact on all humanity.

30-Second Meditation Quickie

30-Second Meditation Quickie

sunrise on ocean with seagullsDo you feel tense, anxious, worried, or consumed with your to-do list? Do you need to take time out and re-group, but think it will take too long, and now you are worried about getting an "F" in relaxation? What if I told you that I have found an easy exercise that takes only 30-60 seconds in order for me to feel refreshed and renewed? I am now feeling centered and sane again!

Although formal Mindfulness Meditation is definitely beneficial, perhaps you have stayed away from the practice because you've heard that you should sit for at least 30 minutes with your spine straight, palms out, noticing your thoughts, letting go of them like passing clouds, creating a word(s) or mantra to focus on while you notice the rising and falling of your in and out breaths. If you are able to meditate like this, I applaud you and I aim for it myself.

Sometimes, however, I think many of us are driven away from meditating because it feels too hard and time-consuming, and we are too edgy to think that we now have to take time away from our to-do list and spend 30 minutes in a disciplined process.

As someone who likes immediate gratification, here's what I do to renew in less than 60 seconds: I close my eyes and just listen to life's symphony. For 30-60 seconds, I stop the world and bring my attention to all the sounds surrounding me. Life is a varied symphony of sounds. Listening and truly hearing the sounds around us brings us to something wonderful: It brings us into the present moment. The NOW moment. Breathing in the now.

As the comedic pianist, Victor Borge, said: "Tap two stones together three times...and you have a waltz!" When I was a young, I was innately in-tune with life's symphony. I would clink the glasses with my spoon at the kitchen table, (and get yelled at), tap stones of various sizes and shapes together and be interested in the different timbres, listen to the different pitches of the glorious birds, (still do), notice the differences in people's footsteps, or patterns and tones in speaking, and be delighted by comparing unique sounds of laughter.

Stopping the world for a minute and listening to the sounds helps us to refocus and get out of our own way. It can help us heal, re-group and renew. It can help us breathe again. It works for me, and I'd love to hear from you as to how it works for you. 30 seconds. That's all we need to get back to the core of our self, our breath, our NOW moment. Do it every now and then during your day, and let me know if it helps.

Inner Child Lullabies of Love

cloud forestWe adults need soothing lullabies too! Especially lullabies that purposefully include lyrics that nurture more self-love, compassion and deep inner peace.

Lullabies of Love-Nurturing the Heart of the Inner Child CD is designed to add another approach and inner growth tool for giving ourselves more love-sometimes the hardest quality in life to instill!  We often find it easier to offer our compassion and understanding to others more than our self.   I am speaking for myself,  but I have a feeling that I can't be alone.

Judes purchased this beautiful new CD and said: "Wow! I listened to the first three songs and it made my energetic systems clear and vibrate, made me smile, made me feel comforted, made me feel light and relieved. It is deeply calming and moving and I can't wait to give these as gifts to my peeps."   Vicki said:  "I fell asleep last night to your beautiful lullaby.  It was so soothing.  I happily drifted off to sleep feeling nurtured and nourished. Who say or thinks lullabies are just for kids? Well, maybe they are right.  My inner child felt safe and loved."

Yes, this lullaby CD can also be used successfully to calm children too. Teachers and parents have given me this feedback.  No matter what age,  I especially designed the words to go into our subconscious to support more nurturing thoughts and feelings, and to soothe the body, mind and spirit into a higher vibration.

Tone Deaf and Still Singing?

Tone Deaf and Still Singing?

flower gardenEven if you are tone deaf, I hope you are still singing anyways! Did you sing today? Even go AHHH so you can feel that vibration throughout your body? Hum?

Even if you think you can't carry a tune, (maybe someone insensitive told you to "mouth the words" when you were young), sing and hum anyways! Even Winnie the Pooh says that!

Science shows that making music and moving raises your vibration and actually massages you from inside-out. Studies on the brain prove it! Call it sound healing and music therapy for yourself to yourself.

Song samples and CD purchases are available at my website and CDBaby.

One Second Brain-Body Building Character Technique

One Second Brain-Body Building Character Technique

bubbling and sudsy creekA Kinesthetic "Peace Begins with You and MeTM" Technique

As perfectly imperfect human beings, we need to inspire ourselves and our children to make moment to moment choices in "being peace."   Creating a personal brain-body cue is like giving ourselves a self-pat on the back for reinforcement, but it is more subtle.  This approach also develops intrapersonal intelligence and emphasizes the joy of "being the changes we want in the world."  It brings each of us to a higher state of consciousness.

True Example:  I was in a line at the bank, and spotted a penny on the floor next to a woman's foot. I bent down to pick up the penny, and offered it to her with a smile.  I know that this is a small action and seemingly a minor one, but the surprise and smile on that person's face was delightful!  As I stepped back in line, I contemplated that quick magical moment.  I had awareness that my small choice of action created a positive vibration.

My 1 Second Brain-Body Cue:  I wanted to reinforce this good feeling.  I placed my hand on my heart for 1 second as a way of saying..."What I did and said made this other person feel good. I want to do this more.  It feels good.  This is how I can make a difference in the world.  Just small things.  Keep it going, and teach it to children too. "

Invent your kinesthetic brain-body cues, and teach this technique to children:  The cues created are not noticed by anyone but you, and are 1 second in duration.  Here are some examples of brain-body cues:  Gently touch heart area for one second; Place thumb and 3rd finger together in an arc; Wiggle toes in shoes; Tap middle of forehead one time.  Any cue invented is a self-reinforcement tool and is your "secret" signal for continuing to walk on the peace begins with you and me path, while inspiring children to do the same.

This approach can build self-awareness and encourage each of us to be the highest version of ourselves as much as possible.  Each time we say or do something we recognize to be kind, loving and "filling someone's bucket," (Carol McCloud), we have contributed to creating a kinder and more loving world.

Voweling for Health: 10 Second Tip for Increased Relaxation, Happiness and Learning

Voweling for Health: 10 Second Tip for Increased Relaxation, Happiness and Learning

people walking on beachHere is a short activity for ALL ages that stimulates the brain-body towards a shift of positive mood, energy, emotional release and an increase in learning. It is simple, time effective, and can be done indoors or outdoors. It is compatible for those of you who were vocally traumatized, and for those of you who like to sing.

This activity is an ancient exercise called Toning. Elongate a vowel sound-ah, oh, hip hip hooray, la, ta-da, hee haw, ya-hoo. Let your voice vibrate. I call this technique Voweling for HealthTM. This technique does not depend on singing in tune or out of tune. It can be done in your speaking or singing voice, and all sounds create positive changes.

Adults and children alike will learn more effectively and feel differently. Part of the reason is that when we are stressed, we often forget to breathe. When toning, we are forced to take a breath and let it out, and this small action will allow fresh renewed air to come into and out of the body. In fact, making these free sounds can massage the hypothalamus, and it is the ONLY way to massage this important area in the brain! If you have heard of Brain GymR, I've added this extension to Brain GymR .

By adding open vowel sounds to your brain health, you will stimulate neuron flow. In fact, voweling for healthTM increases intellectual and emotional IQ, AND can create an aerobic heartbeat without typical aerobic exercise!

Even e-i-e-i-oh from Old McDonald releases the human voice. In fact, any VOWEL sound and humming can vibrate the voice and is "sound healing." Open sounds massage from inside-out and shift energy to a more vibrant level! The next time you choose to sing Old McDonald, pay even more attention to the E-I-E-I-O part, and when in the car, do some yahoo's to shift the mood. One of my songs on the CD, "Celebrate," begins with a big ya-hoo, so check out track 1 on i-tunes or on my CD.

By the way, we recently had a global World Sound Healing Day at noon, in which people all over the world sang the vowel sound of AH while visualizing peace within, in our families, neighborhoods and on our earth. This AH sound is meant to vibrate the heart energy center within ourselves and within others. It is the "love" vibration.

Try voweling for healthTM at home, in the classroom, in your office, in the car and anytime you need to re-group. Another side-effect? I challenge you to worry and fret while you are voweling for health! Sound release keeps you in the moment, in the NOW, and helps all ages and stages in life. As Winnie the Pooh says: "Hum a little hum."

The Art of Human Connection

The Art of Human Connection

lake and reflectionI recently taught a "Peace Begins with You and Me" workshop for adults in the Chicago area, and it was a deeply gratifying experience. The participants were open, honest and had a fervent desire to raise their own consciousness, and we fed each other's souls.

I was curious about why the directors and teachers chose this particular type of workshop. Many adults mentioned that as they help the children with their difficult lives...they themselves need to refuel, recharge and reflect on how to bring more peace into their own being, into their families and beyond. They were searching for more inner growth tools for themselves and for their curriculum.

Through this group sharing, everyone inspired everyone, we all felt less alone and isolated...and each of us grew more deeply motivated to fill our own "peace begins with me" cup. Over the three hours, the workshop was filled with smiles, laughter, hugs, tears, sharing, singing, rapping, storytelling, learning, deep connection, and lots of respect, hope and love...and strangers became friends and one heartbeat.

We brainstormed specific words, actions and thoughts that could elevate or wound a human being. Our own consciousness was heightened. Children don't understand when we say "just use your words." We need to role model and teach children to hear the sounds of specific words that uplift, embrace respect, patient listening, caring, cooperation and love. Bullying, false rumors, gossiping, teasing and back stabbing will be less prevalent the more we can role model and teach the power of positive non-verbal and verbal communication.

On a parallel reflective note, I see a world of people that are looking down at their i-phones when they are with someone, taking part in fleeting conversation and eye contact. I also observe children playing games on their computer as they sit there with their families...no one talking, no one interacting.

People are forgetting HOW to connect. There is so much looking down at our i-phones and i-pads, and not enough looking up and into the beautiful beings that walk our planet. I love technology, but it feels as if we are losing our way.

I want to encourage all of us to remember the need each of us has for heart-centered connection, warm eye contact, personalization, kind words and actions, tolerance, non-judgment, smiles and hugs with friends and strangers. Together we can continue to create a world filled with love, respect and kindness.

After the last newsletter on effective communication, I myself received a beautiful note of connection, reflection, kind action and honesty...and Barbara's outreach to me helped me want to continue to grow, learn and share my heart and perceptions. Let's keep "paying it forward."

Barbara wrote:

When I receive your messages a colorful image runs through my mind of someone sending a carefully crafted, colorfully organized, and beautifully relevant message out into the universe and waiting until its pieces drift back through the atmosphere to earth where pieces fall upon the shoulders, hearts and minds of those of us who must need the message at a given point in time. I just caught one! Thank you for your reminder on communication...this has been a year of change and trial for so many folks, that after months of coping skills, their reserves are dry and good communication between folks enters the worn areas of impatience and fatigue. Your message brings the lesson of listening beyond the words spoken to an understanding of the speaker. When we rush to listen, we often lose both the words and the speaker. Thank you again.--Barbara

Taking Time to Listen to the Sounds of Life’s Symphony

Taking Time to Listen to the Sounds of Life's Symphony

rainforestThe earth's beauty is calling to us right now, this moment, this season. Let's stop our to-do list long enough to hear the birds, river, ocean, gentle breeze; let's enter into more of a still state to observe the colors, sounds and sights surrounding us. Every moment we are too much in our minds of whirling endless lists is a missed moment of noticing the symphony of life itself. Bring yourself on a sound-sight walk, and open your ears to what is naturally all around us. This is the healing gift you can give yourself and to someone you love.

Accompany your nature focus with a feeling of inner gratefulness for the abundance all around us. Breathe it all in. The earth and all of its living things is sacred, and the more we take the time to really see, hear and appreciate her with our hearts, the more we can realize on the deepest of levels how important it is to revere Mother Earth, Father Sky.

Remember the words of Chief Seattle in the 1700's:

This we know. Teach your children what we have taught our children. That the earth is our Mother. Whatever befalls the earth, befalls the sons and daughters of the earth. If people spit upon the ground, they spit upon themselves. The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth. All things are connected, like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected. We did not weave the web of life, we are merely a strand in it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. This we know. ---Chief Seattle
